An at-risk youth is a child who is less likely to transition successfully into adulthood. Success can include academic success and job readiness, as well as the ability to be financially independent. More than 13 percent of people in the United States—almost 42 million—are between the ages of 10 and 19. These adolescents are increasingly diverse and reflect the changing racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic structure of the U.S. population.
